Description |
A set of 4 photographs of the exterior of the Caleb Smith II House, after its 1955 move from Commack to Village of the Branch in Smithtown. They seem to have been taken at different times because the landscape is different in each .1) This is black and white and taken from the other side of the front from the other 3. Notes on the back read "Caleb Smith / Smithtn Hist Soc_". The photo has a 1/8 to 1/4" white border with a scalloped edge. See Image #1. .2) This photo is black and white and there are many trees and bushes to the left of the house, although the ones in front are pretty small/bare, similar to those in (.1). There is what looks like a parking area marked off with logs in the foreground, similar to (.4). Photo # 1986.831d shows the same parking lot marked off with logs and is dated 1957, so this is likely from a similar time. Notes on the back read "Caleb Smith house". The photo has a 1/4 to 5/8" white border with a scalloped edge. See Image #2. .3) This one is black and white and shows a similar parking area to (.2 & .4), but without logs marking it off. There is also a parth leading up to the house that does not appear in the other photos, and the tree in front of the house is bigger and fuller in this image. The lower border is stamped "OCT 64", so this was likely taken shortly before that. A building seems to be visible beyond the house, as in (.4), but trees and bushes impede the view. Notes on the back read "Caleb Smith house / Hist. Soc. Museum". The photo has a 1/4" white border. See Image #3. .4) This one is sepia-toned and another building is visible beyond it. There is what looks like a parking area marked off with logs in the foreground, similar to (.2). Photo # 1986.831d shows the same parking lot marked off with logs and is dated 1957, so this is likely from a similar time. There appears to be a little snow on the roof. The photo has a 1/4" white border with a scalloped edge. See Image #4. |
